Travertine is one of the types of crystalline calcareous stones formed by the evaporation of calcium bicarbonate water in warm water sources. Travertine has a variety of white, cream, grey, and ... colours. Although travertine is not as hard as granite or marble it is infinitely durable. Travertine is resistant to water and moisture, and due to the porous surface can be used for wet areas and outer space. It is also highly resistant to crushing or cracking.
Vein cut vs Cross cut
Vein cut
This type of slab cutting yields slabs with almost parallel veins of different colours showing lengthwise or vertically. These lines are layers of ancient sediment that was compressed over the course of many years to produce the rock that is being cut today for interior décor purposes.
Cross cut
A cross cut slab assumes the same width and durability as the vein cut slab. The difference comes in their appearance. A cross cut slab is characterized by colours showing the cross section of the veins of the sediment layers in the rock from which the slabs were cut. It is the same rock like the one that produces the vein cuts but this time the cut is at a 90-degree angle to the vein cut.
